Corporal Punishment and the Effects of Its Usage - 757 Words
Corporal Punishment and the effects of its usage Corporal punishment is the ability to make physical contact as a form of punishment for reprimanding ones behavior. Corporal punishment versus positive reinforcement while they both serve their purpose corporal punishment is known to be more effective. The most common form of disciplining has always been either a spanking, corporal punishment has been dated all the way back to biblical times. Now the corporal punishment that occurred during biblical and slavery times might not be for the greater good, however the individuals who owned slaves thought it to help one complete their job quicker and better. If one slave didnââ¬â¢t do something properly or escaped corporal punishment was enforced which resulted in receiving a beating from a long strap; this is form of corporal punishment is actual abuse, yet it deterred other slaves from committing the same actions as others. As a result corporal punishment has been around for years and s erves its purpose for every aspect in life. Throughout my book Iââ¬â¢ll be explaining the effectiveness of corporal punishment versus positive reinforcement. The effectiveness of corporal punishment is something that is much more than whooping a child for wrongful doing, but itââ¬â¢s a deterrence mechanism within households and even schools. Great Power, Great Responsibility - 1390 Words
Great Power, Great Responsibility Chances are you have or know someone that has a family member suffering from Alzheimer s disease. Itââ¬â¢s effects are heartbreaking and awful for all involved, but what if Alzheimer s disappeared from the world? Due to recent technological innovations, gene editing could soon be used to cure genetic diseases like Alzheimer s. In the film Jurassic Park the character Dr. Ian Malcolm said ââ¬Å"... scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didnââ¬â¢t stop to think if they should.â⬠Though he was referring to reviving dinosaur species, he is correct that scientists and indirectly, the populace, have a responsibility to ensure scientific advancements are safe and in the best interests ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Zoologist Dr. Weizhi Ji theorizes that this technology will be used to extend the human lifespan (481). Extending lifespans is an example of unneeded editing, and would increase the tremendous press ure on the already strained healthcare systems of the world, as well as the social security system in the United States. Likewise, removing genetic diseases would remove some pressure from the world healthcare systems; those that would be born with diseases would be born without them and any treatment they would have needed would be futile. Editing genes brings along with it a whole new set of benefits and drawbacks, by only allowing edits for genetic diseases and birth defects the amount of drawbacks is reduced drastically. Gene editing is brand new and there is no way to see all of itââ¬â¢s effects, but starting by only allowing the most vital edits the world is given a small but sufficient platform to analyze the effects of this new technology. Evolution is when an organism develops a trait which is useful to it in itââ¬â¢s environment, and then passes it onto its offspring. These traits give that organism an advantage over other organisms of itââ¬â¢s species, and usually in the wild it leads to the demise of the other, now separate, species. Gene editing is similar to evolution, but it will not likely lead to the extinction of unaltered humans. It can, however, create a divide between two distinct species. Influential Kendrick Lamar and A.L.L.A Essay Example For Students
Influential Kendrick Lamar and A.L.L.A Essay Iââ¬â¢ve been rapping, and telling stories since I was young. Born in Compton, I didnââ¬â¢t have the easiest life, I grew up around crime and everything but it didnââ¬â¢t hurt me as much as it influenced me. Tupac Shakur is my biggest influence, with my music being influenced by him, along with some of the aggression in some of my songs being influenced by Eminem. I want equality. My newest album, ââ¬Å"To Pimp a Butterflyâ⬠has influenced teachers to start teaching my album to their students. Theyââ¬â¢ve compared it to powerful novels about racism and cultural movements. Ferguson has helped influence my album because of the whole racism and police brutality. The Black Lives Matter movement is a huge part of my music, with how I want equality. While recording To Pimp a Butterfly, I was going through deep depression, suicidal thoughts, and survivorââ¬â¢s guilt. Itââ¬â¢s hard to know you made it so far while starting with nothing but knowing you canââ¬â¢t help all of your friends and family get out like you did. As much as my song, ââ¬Å"i,â⬠describes how I love myself, my song, ââ¬Å"u,â⬠describes how I feel about how Iââ¬â¢ve actually felt about myself. The sense of hopelessness, but it all helped my music. I mentions a lot of this in my poem that I recite in several songs on To Pimp a Butterfly. Iââ¬â¢ve been called the most influential rapper since Tupacââ¬â¢s death, for the messages that I put out, and tell in my music. With everything from loving yourself, talking about depression, to racism and equality. With what I rap about, I want to spread the message about everything I can, while showing people you can rise from the bottom. I have influenced so many people and I hope Iââ¬â¢m able to influence so many more. Have you ever experienced an album that has truly touched your soul? Has it ever made you think youââ¬â¢ll never hear music as good as what you have just heard? For me it all started on May 27th, 2015. When the album At Long Last A$AP was released a week early on the 26th, although I didnââ¬â¢t find out until the day after. I scrambled to my computer so I could listen to the what I thought was (and was right) going the be a masterpiece. Although Kendrick Lamarââ¬â¢s album ââ¬Å"To Pimp a Butterfly,â⬠came out a few months earlier and gave extremely good messages, I look at that as more of a story and a message (although it was also a masterpiece of an album and Kendrick is one of my favorite rappers) rather than an album. The fact that A$AP Rocky re recorded songs on the album after another A$AP Mob member, A$AP Yams died and dedicated the album to him is so great and truly touches my heart. After the release of his first studio album, A$AP Rocky spent time to learn more about making beats, and working on his lyric writing so he could improve from Live. Love. A$AP, which was a great album itââ¬â¢s self. A$AP himself has stated that none of his songs are the same, in which I completely agree. Heââ¬â¢ll go from songs about clothes and fashion, to songs about partying. The albumââ¬â¢s abbreviation is A. L. L. A which is close to the god ââ¬Å"Allah,â⬠like the name of the god MC. A$AP is also named after Rakim. So clearly he wants listeners to know that he he some sort of god, or rap god. So as Iââ¬â¢ve stated, A. L. L. A definitely deserves album of the year. What Matters free essay sample
Money, sex, cars, and clothes; these are things that are glorified in the world today and as what matter in life. You wonââ¬â¢t hear a fifth grade teacher telling her students that these are the things that matter in life, but television, music, and movies do a great job at it. The American Dream is about becoming wealthy so you can have whatever you want. What is the definition of wealthy though? The only true wealthy persons in the world are the ones with morals. Without them, we are heartless fiends after material possessions. The United States of America prides itself on our compassion and willingness to help countries in duress. Aiding third world countries millions of miles away is a prime example of morality. Our conscious would not let us live with our fortunes while there are nations with their population suffering from malnutrition. We become so guilt ridden whenever seeing a picture of a person in that situation that we have to do something about it. If you think that the gap between the wealthy in the U.S. is big, just imagine what it would be like if there were no such things as welfare and medicare. Slavery would still be happening since there would be nobody how would stand up and say that it is wrong. I wouldnââ¬â¢t even be writing this paper if it werenââ¬â¢t for morals, which is why it is what really matters. What Matters free essay sample There was a time I hated him, when we were both very young. He was awkward to look at, all spindly legs and gangly arms. I had never before met someone so haughty, so incredibly rude, and just generally obnoxious. He produced a lot of saliva whenever he spoke, which in turn made him sound like the victim of a perpetual cold. The most exasperating thing about him, by far, was his inability to sit still. He would meander about the classroom, slinking from desk to desk, always making a scene out of avoiding contact with the floor. To know him then was a terrible misfortune. However, that period was brief, and is often forgotten about. Past affairs are exactly that: past affairs. Now is what matters, and to know him now is the greatest joy. He is still quite awkward to look atnow even more soas his limbs are twice as lanky and his gait three times as fluid. We will write a custom essay sample on What Matters or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page His face is uncannily boyish and doesnââ¬â¢t quite coincide with his antique attire. But I have never known someone with such a beautiful soul as his. He is the type of person that is not quite sure if he can be loved, yet still manages to give out more than anyone could reasonably afford. Happiness comes and goes for him in tidal waves. There are days when he erupts with blissfulness; there are days when he is catatonic. Most days he appears to be caught in between the two, lost somewhere within himself. These are the days when he always responds with an ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m fineâ⬠and a meager grin, although his eyes betray his words, incapable of concealing the truth. The truth is that he is constantly on the brink of destruction. Never before have I encountered a person so tortured. His mind harbors demons he refuses to let anyone see, though the effect that they have on him is exceedingly clear. They haunt him, cloud his heart with doubt, fool him into believing he is worthless. The negativity follows him everywhere, pervading the surrounding air like thick black smoke, choking all who dare tread near him. I believe that there is a part of him that is tired of running, a part that wants to succumb, just to know what it is like not to live in fear. I also believe that there is a part of him that wants, more than anything, to be savedthough he rarely feels that he is worth saving. It is hard, at times, to determine which side will prevail. I will never tell him, but he has a way about him that is utterly captivating. He often studies me, head cocked slightly to one side, one eye squinted, and right when I feel as if I might melt under his scrutiny, he grins and murmurs something like ââ¬Å"We should see each other tomorrow. Weââ¬â¢ll drink coffee and smoke cigars and listen to old albums.â⬠Then, when we meet the next day, we do anything but that. I live for waking up on gray mornings entwined in his arms, his breathing in time with my heartbeat; lazy afternoons in his living room, lying on the floor as he clumsily strums his guitar and half-sings something he wrote; nights that drag on and on as we drain bottles of wine and dance to his fatherââ¬â¢s old records. His presence awakens every cell in my body. He inspires me to be better, not just for him, but for the world. I strive to make him as proud of me as I am of him. He does not say goodbye. A glaring fault of his, I am driven mad by the lack of courtesy. Conversations on the phone are left open ended. Departures in person consist of a nod and a swift turn of the heel, at most. Whether this is his choice, or simply something he isnt capable of doing, I will never know. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s pointless,â⬠he says to me whenever I try to argue. ââ¬Å"Why make things harder for yourself? Think of how much happier everyone would be if they only ever said hello.â⬠It frustrates me to no end when he says this. I am left sputtering, even as he rolls his eyes and leaves the room. ââ¬Å"But you donââ¬â¢t understand,â⬠I call after him. ââ¬Å"Goodbyes are everything.â⬠My words have yet to resonate with him, though. Even when he left to study abroad for a year, he refused to speak to anyone for two weeks prior to his voyage. I bring this up to him often; I tryin vainto articulate just how much it hurts when he does things like that. He replies with a you-know-how-I-am kind of look and an apologetic shrug. When he decided to leave again, this time for much longer than a year, he did so quietly and abruptly, as was his way. I remember waking up alone that gray morning, leaping out of bed, running through the house, screaming his name. Finding his body crumpled in the bathroom, finding his spirit no where. Wanting to peel off everythingfrom his shirt to the very nailpolish I was wearingand evaporate into the dawn. Never before had I felt so hollow. I remember tearing through his belongings, through my belongings, desperately seeking a note, a picture, a sign. Collapsing beside him, demanding a reason. His silence was deafening. I should have been used to it by then; he had always been that way. It was a glaring fault of mine to expect anything else. However, our past faults are just that: past faults. I had the great fortune of knowing him, of loving himand that is what matters. To love him was the greatest joy.

Debenhams International Expansion Strategy Essays
Debenhams International Expansion Strategy Essays Debenhams International Expansion Strategy Essay Debenhams International Expansion Strategy Essay DEBENHAMS INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION STRATEGY History Debenhams is a chain of department stores based in the United Kingdom. Debenhams Retail Plc is part of the Debenhams Group of Companies. The company started as a retail outlet in 1778 with a nice British gentleman, William Franks and a fancy boutique: expensive fashionable clothing, gloves and bow ties, only for high class London society and grew to acquire other stores in town and cities in the UK such as Pauldins in Manchester and Browns of Chester. Most stores retained their former identities until a unified corporate image was rolled out across the stores. Debenhams was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1928 and continued to expand. In 1985 the company was acquired by the Burton Group. At this point the company owned 65 stores. Debenhams demerged in 1998 and was once again listed as a separate company. Nowadays Debenhams is a business listed on the stock market, with about 200 stores in UK and worldwide and an annual turnover of 2,3 billion GBP, especially after the quick expansion through the 90ââ¬â¢s. Debenhams stores are departmentalized as follows: Health and Beauty; Womenââ¬â¢s wear; Menswear; Fashion Accessories; Young Fashion; Home; Childrenââ¬â¢s wear; Media Entertainment (ME depts. n all stores closing early 2004); Food Services; Customer Accounts. Debenhams stores vary greatly in size from country to country and from city to city; smaller stores do not have a full range of departments. A major source of business is concessions. These are shop-in-shops which can be found in most Debenhams stores such as Young Fa shion companies Oasis and Ladieswear outlet Evans. The companys innovation has proved successful by introducing branding into its mens and ladieswear lines. The Designers at Debenhams include Jasper Conran , John Richmond and John Rocha. In 2002 the Nectar loyalty card was introduced with Debenhams as a major sponsor. This card now allows customers to collect loyalty points from a range of retailers such as Sainsburys, BP, Barclaycard, Vodafone and Ford amongst others. Despite some criticism, the Debenhams Account Card is still a major source of revenue for the company ensuring customer loyalty and targeted mailings. The company was taken over by a private consortium later in 2003 and their exact future is uncertain in terms of future development.

Management reprt - Essay Example After this process, and through experience, now they already know who the best is and they buy only from them. Concurrently, the manager also noted that some of the sellers are actually friends with people that work at the restaurant. They purchase ingredients, such as meat, fish, vegetables and other fresh stuff, on a daily basis at local Indian/Bengali shops. Accordingly, there are plenty of them in the neighbourhood, as there are 50 Indian, Bengali, Thai, and Asian restaurants in this area. So they tested different suppliers and chose the best ones. It was emphasized that it took years of experience. Now, the Cinnamon Brick Lane Restaurant is acknowledged to be the best, legendary, and renowned. The standard of quality also means possessing secret recipes appreciated by the worlds best chefs. 2 The fact that food critics who graced the restaurant provided exemplary reviews evidently indicates that the establishment is viewed as one that serves high quality food, diverse menus and exemplary service. The official restaurantââ¬â¢s website cited the results from two of the food critics who visited their establishment that: ââ¬Å"Among our many accolades include food critic and Michelin chef Pat Chapman, in the Cobra Good Food Guide, and Humayun Khan - from TANDOORI MAGAZINE, who gave rave reviews on his last visit to Cinnamon for his favourite dish, the LEMON-GRASS CHICKEN, recommending Cinnamon as one of the best Indian/ Bangladeshi restaurants in Britain. Site study report - Research Paper Example The company subcontracted to supply furniture was a Chinese firm called xxxx. We got to learn that the main reason the owner of the restaurant wanted it renovated and refurbished was so that it would look more attractive to customers. According to the owner of the restaurant, the restaurant looked dull, the floor looked old, the furniture were outdated and did not afford customers the kind of comfort that they deserved. By changing the outlook of the restaurant, it would look like it has been rebranded without having to change its name. The plan that had been developed by the construction company for the renovation of the site was a 2-D drawing made to scale. The floor plan outlined the arrangement of the restaurant in terms of furniture, and fixtures. It was quite evident that the new arrangement of the restaurant would be significantly different from the old one. Apart from the floor plan, the company had a 3-D model of what the restaurant would look like once it was completed and fully furnished. Instead of the old blue color, the restaurant would have a bright pinkish color. The floor would be finished using floor differently colored tiles in replacement of the concrete floor. According to the 3-D plan, the restaurant would have a reflected ceiling and that would host several colored lights. In the old plan, the ceiling was plain and only had one or two lights centrally located in every room of the restaurant. In place of the high energy white bulbs, the restaurant would be fitted with energy saving bulbs of different colors. The old partition that divided one of the sitting areas into two was demolished in line with the new plan. It was evident that the contractor made the final product look like it appeared on the space plan and 3d computer model. We learnt that the restaurant was to have a lively, almost natural theme and so many of the furniture would be made of natural materials such as bamboo and wood. The restaurantââ¬â¢s furniture were mainly of Chinese style to match the culture of the target customers. One of the things I got to ask related to the production of the plan and 3D- model. The plan had been developed by the contractor in consultation with the owner of the restaurant. While the space plan had been drawn using AutoCAD software before being printed, the 3D-model had been done using Autodesk Homestyler. It is worth noting that the use of software in modern design has many advantages as it saves the designers a lot of time and energy, allows for greater accuracy, and makes it easy to make changes to plans in case of need. I asked the supervisor to outline the process involved in satisfying a customerââ¬â¢s need with respect to construction and interior design. He stated that the process involved several stages that began with the customer providing a brief of his/her requirements or specifying their needs. Based on the specifications, a designer will ask the customer questions regarding how the facility will be used, how many people it should accommodate, and what the customer hopes to achieve from the work among other questions. Based on this information, a team of designers will engage in research before coming up with a creative design and technical drawings, with the customerââ¬â¢s budget in mind. It is at this point that different software are used to come up with the plans, models and renderings. The customer is then shown the design for approval. If the
